Concrete Sealer
Basement concrete cracks as a house settles.
Hopefully most of the cracks are minor but you
should patch these cracks then apply a concrete
sealer. Resurfacing concrete finish is not just for
looks. Water and possibly radon gas will seep
through these fissures. Remove any lose pieces of
concrete and debris with the trowel hand tools.
Pressure wash the concrete. You must get the area
as clean as possible. Use concrete with at least
3,000 PSI and good adhesion. The concrete patch
mix comes with its own bonding agent. Follow the
manufactures instructions carefully. When these
patches are cured you will be ready for resurfacing
concrete for the floor.

There are a number texture resurfacing concrete
material designed for resurfacing, overlaying and
texturing stable concrete floors and surfaces. They
are high strength, toppings that come as a “just add
water” overlay mix for creating thin stamped
overlays, patching or levelling and they give you a
textured finish and serve as a concrete sealer.
These are the thicker coatings. Then there are the
thin topping material designed for resurfacing,
overlaying and texturing stable concrete floors and
surfaces of your basement concrete. These
coatings come in standard colors but can be
custom colored for additional highlighting effects.
There is some texture to this coating. For a smooth
finish use the super thin cementation materials that
are designed for creating an extremely smooth
finish to the top is a “just add water” overlay mix for
creating smooth finishes. The good ones are
polymer emulsion compositions and blends that
when mixed with the correct ratios of white cement,
various silica quartz aggregates and other
components create permanent, not temporary
coatings.

If your basement concrete is smooth but drab, there
are spray-on or roll-on concrete sealers that will
beautify as well as seal the concrete. Resurfacing
concrete this way is relatively fast and easy and
give you a nice finish. It is wise for health reasons
to apply a concrete sealer even if you plan to erect
finished walls and hide the basement walls.
