Basement Plumbing
Basement plumbing can be the challenge for the
basement bathroom you are planning to install. Any
good basement design includes a bathroom. In
many homes the drainpipes are above the
basement floor level. It really does not matter if they
are one foot or eight feet up, up is up and
wastewater does not like to flow uphill. Not to panic,
we have the technology and we can fix this. There
are a number of different wastewater pump systems
available and you will have to decide how much
money you willing to spend and what features you
demand.

There are all-in-one units. These may be the
answer to your basement plumbing problems and
they can easily be a do it yourself projects. They
consist of a holding tank that sits on the basement
floor and have a pump built into them. The toilet is
usually mounted directly onto the tank and so the
toilet is automatically raised higher off the floor. The
pump out line is run up and into the main drainpipe.
You may need a plumber for this part. Most of these
units allow you to connect thee sink and bathtub
drains to them. Your basement design may be
altered to include a step up into the basement
bathroom.

The best design is a bellow floor waste sump tank
and pump. This will require some concrete cutting
so are more expensive to do and probably are not a
do it yourself project. The sump tank will come with
conduits through the wall, so you just lower the
pump into the basin and connect to the discharge
pipe, and you will be ready to use the system. All
your basement waste discharge plumbing can be
routed through this sump tank and pump. There
must be a check valve in the discharge line so that
there can be no back flow. Also the wastewater
sump will need to be vented to outside. You do not
want any sewer gas coming into your living space.
Remember the rule of what can go into the waste
elimination system is, if you have not eaten it first, it
does not go in the toilet.
