BASEMENT INSULATION is vital
|
Basement insulation is essential when finishing a
basement or doing a basement remodel. When
insulating a basement it is wise to take into account
water that infiltrates up through the footings. This
can best be accomplished by using ridged
semi-permeable foam insulation. It is best to use
one-inch thick or less foam insulation as any thicker
will not breath enough.
When you use ridged foam insulation as your
basement insulation, do not face it with a vapour
barrier. Part of finishing a basement is painting,
make sure you use a latex paint as it will breath,
which is an important consideration in a basement
remodel.
Doing a basement remodel or finishing a basement
using fibreglass bats and vapour barrier, usually
result in drawing moisture in through the concrete.
This is often the cause of Mold growth and odors.
Basement Insulation sometimes feels like a
dammed if you do and dammed if you do not
situation. To make your basement warm and
friendly you need to insulate but do it wrong and
you cause mold and dampness causing rot. Take
the time and care to do it right.
